While quick tattoo removal is important, it's even more crucial to remove tattoos safely, minimizing scars or pigmentation. Even if traces inevitably remain, they can be improved with treatment.
Therefore, post-removal skin care determines the results. We've summarized how to manage your skin after the procedure and how to treat any reactions that may occur.
Immediate Reactions After the Procedure
After tattoo treatment, pain is generally expected. The intensity varies depending on the body part; areas with delicate skin are more sensitive to pain, while thicker areas are less so.
When a tattoo is removed, the tattoo pigment particles within the skin break, damaging the surrounding skin. If blood vessels are damaged, bleeding may occur, and blisters can form. Other common post-laser treatment reactions like swelling and redness may also appear.
Long-Term Effects
After acute reactions, the most common long-term effects are scarring and pigmentation. Treatment methods vary depending on the type of remaining issue.
| Remaining Issue | Treatment Approach |
|---|---|
| Scars | Can be treated with Pinhole Technique, a laser scar treatment method |
| Pigmentation | Medication or pigment lasers to lighten the color |
Scar treatment is detailed in the Pinhole for Burn & Surgical Scar guide, and pigmentation management is covered in Pico·Dual·Gold-Diamond Toning.
Is it Okay to Get it Done in Summer?
Many people avoid laser treatments in the summer. However, tattoo removal lasers take a long time and generally leave only shallow wounds on the skin, so light exercise or a little sweating is not a major problem.
However, it's best to avoid saunas and jjimjilbangs, and to refrain from excessive sweating or swimming where you immerse yourself in water.
The 2-Week Guideline
We recommend avoiding activities like saunas or swimming for at least 2 weeks. It's also not advisable to sunbathe or tan immediately after any laser treatment, not just tattoo removal lasers.
After about 2 weeks, the skin will have recovered, so you can consider these activities possible thereafter.
Wound Care Guidelines
After tattoo removal laser treatment, tiny wounds remain on the skin. Therefore, wound care is crucial.
- Apply antibiotic ointment to prevent secondary bacterial infection.
- Avoid prolonged, deep exposure to water.
- Light showers are possible.
Signs to Revisit the Clinic
Some oozing from the treated area may occur for a day or two. However, in the following cases, you should revisit the clinic where you had the procedure for a specialist's diagnosis:
- If blisters form or there is excessive oozing.
- If pain persists for more than 2 to 3 days.
The overall treatment flow can be found in the Tattoo Removal Treatment Guide, and the procedure components are detailed in the R-Zero Pico-Frectat Tattoo Removal Guide. If you have any questions during your recovery, please contact us via chat now. Individual recovery progress may vary.
