Tattooing is a procedure that invasively injects ink into the skin to create color. Once etched, it is difficult to remove, and removal requires a lot of time and effort.

According to academic reports, a significant number of people regret getting a tattoo and wish to have it removed. Let's look at the methods of removal and what each leaves behind.

Removal Creams in Advertisements

You have probably seen many products advertised online as tattoo removal creams. They do not remove tattoos as advertised.

Similar advertisements are common overseas, but such products are also known to have little to no effect.

Scars Left by Acidic Substances

Some people use substances containing acidic materials to remove tattoos. In the past, there were stories of tattoos being removed with things like battery acid.

Acidic substances treat tattoos by causing chemical burns. The tattoo is often not effectively treated, and instead, large scars are left on the skin, often leading to greater concern.

After a burn, some parts of the tattoo may be removed, but remaining parts and secondary scars can often exacerbate the problem.

Marks Left by Excision Surgery

Tattoo removal surgery is a method of removing the tattooed skin area by excising it. While difficult to use for large tattoos, it can be used for small ones.

It has the advantage of removing the tattoo in one go. However, a scar often remains in its place, which is more unsightly, so it is generally not a recommended method.

Two Scars Left by Skin Grafting

Skin grafting for tattoo removal was also used before good lasers were developed. This method involves removing the tattooed area and grafting other skin in its place.

Even with this method, tattoos are often still visible, and in most cases, patch-like scars remain on both the grafted area and the donor site, resulting in a more aesthetically disappointing outcome.

Why Lasers Remain

FDA-approved PicoWay Laser treatment is currently the gold standard for tattoo removal.

  • It can reduce side effects by selectively destroying only tattoo particles.
  • It is reported as a method that can deliver expected results.

Currently, all dermatology clinics use lasers for tattoo removal. Information on equipment and treatment configurations can be found in R-Zero Pico-Frectat Tattoo Removal and Nd:YAG Tattoo Removal, and the method for addressing scars can be found in Pinhole for Burn & Surgical Scar.
