The most important principle in scar treatment is not to overdo it. Side effects can occur the moment a doctor becomes overly ambitious. Even though cosmetic procedures are generally considered safe, accidents often happen when there is an eagerness to rush the results. Therefore, we believe that allowing sufficient skin recovery before moving to the next treatment stage, though it may take more time, is the correct approach.
Scars Naturally Improve Slowly
Scar treatment progresses much slower than expected. There are individual differences; some people notice changes after one or two sessions, while others may need six or seven sessions. Those with impatient personalities often find it frustrating, but scar treatment is inherently an area where improvement is gradual.
There are cases where a patient, who left angry long after treatment, returned later to say that they had recently seen improvement. That's how slowly this treatment changes things.
During Treatment, It Might Temporarily Look Worse
During treatment, there may be periods when the scar temporarily looks worse. Because the skin is continuously stimulated, the following changes may occur:
- Reddish tone
- Brown pigmentation
- Laser marks
- Discoloration due to injections
When these changes persist, it can easily seem to the patient that the treatment is ineffective. However, it is important to understand that these are part of the recovery process.
Color Returns Over Time
After completing treatment, if you allow a year or so, the skin tone will naturally return. Many people only feel that their scars have improved after six months to a year post-treatment, as the redness and pigment changes gradually subside. Therefore, we recommend allowing a generous recovery period of about one year.
When Anxious, Trust Your Doctor and Wait
Even if a period of anxiety arises midway, trusting your doctor and waiting patiently will determine the outcome. Many people become anxious when scars temporarily appear more prominent during the treatment process, but this is an area that recovers with sufficient time. It is most important to wait with patience rather than rushing.
Results may vary by individual, and accurate diagnosis and treatment are determined after consultation.
