Hello, I am Jeong Ji-haeng, a dermatologist. There is a common misconception that sensitive skin makes it difficult to receive any treatment. However, there are various treatment methods that can certainly help these skin types. Today, let's explore appropriate treatment plans for sensitive skin.

Is treatment possible for sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin often reacts easily to external stimuli, leading to redness or breakouts. For this reason, many people hesitate to undergo treatments, but by consulting with a dermatologist and choosing a treatment suitable for their skin, they can expect significant improvement. The key is to establish an accurate diagnosis and a customized treatment plan before the procedure.

The first treatment I'd like to introduce is ultrasound management, such as LDM. LDM uses dual frequencies to help generate new collagen in the skin, increase skin moisturizing factors, and contribute to reducing inflammation. It microscopically opens pathways in the skin to help active ingredients penetrate deeply, but it is not a method where holes remain for several days after the treatment.

What effects can be expected from LDM ultrasound management?

LDM ultrasound management offers the following advantages:

  • Almost no side effects or pain occur.
  • It causes less irritation to the skin, making it less burdensome for sensitive skin.
  • Makeup applies well after treatment, and immediate skin improvement can be felt.
  • It is suitable for sensitive or dry skin, and those with frequent breakouts.
  • It can also be helpful for skin that is difficult to treat with other procedures.

It can be a good choice, especially for regenerating skin that has become sensitive after laser treatments. Consistent treatment can help improve skin regeneration and reduce acute inflammation, leading to healthier skin.

The second is vascular laser treatment. Many people with red and thin skin often have noticeable enlarged blood vessels. This can be congenital, and in children, it can appear as a strawberry nose condition or blood vessels resembling worms.

When is vascular laser treatment needed for red and thin skin?

Vascular laser treatment may be considered in the following cases:

  • Congenitally enlarged blood vessels.
  • Occurring in scar tissue from repeated acne or dermatitis.
  • Vascular dilation appearing after long-term use of steroid ointments.
  • Vascular problems caused by sun exposure.

In such cases, fundamental treatment may be necessary, using a vascular laser like Vbeam that reacts to blood vessels to destroy abnormally expanded vessels. After the procedure, the skin may be slightly red or swollen for a day or two, and bruising may occur partially depending on the size of the blood vessels. Over time, abnormal blood vessels improve, and the treatment can help flatten red and bumpy areas, as well as positively alleviate symptoms like itching. Recently, methods have also been developed and applied to intentionally induce or amplify temporary vascular dilation to maximize the laser response. This vascular laser can be applied to various skin problems such as facial redness, port-wine stains, hemangiomas, and acne marks.

Finally, Water-Luminous Injection. There is a lot of interest in hyaluronic acid these days. While it is often encountered as a nutritional supplement or cosmetic ingredient, it is important to deliver it directly deep into the skin. The skin is largely divided into the epidermis and dermis; the epidermis defends the skin from external stimuli, while the dermis plays a crucial role in maintaining skin shape, providing elasticity through collagen and elastin, and supplying nutrients to the epidermal layer.

Why should Water-Luminous Injection be injected directly?

The dermis is composed of collagen, elastin, etc., which are deeply involved in elasticity and regeneration, and hyaluronic acid plays a role in absorbing and holding water up to 1000 times its molecular weight.

"Hyaluronic acid plays a very important role in keeping our skin moist and plump. However, ingested or topically applied hyaluronic acid has a large molecular weight, making it difficult to penetrate sufficiently into the dermis."

Therefore, Water-Luminous Injection is a method that directly delivers hyaluronic acid into the dermis via injection, allowing the skin to retain moisture. There are methods of direct injection, and treatment is also recommended using devices such as DermaShine. DermaShine uses a device with microneedles to quickly and accurately inject the drug throughout the skin. Since the drug penetrates uniformly into the cells in small amounts, it has the advantage of less drug loss and pain.

Before treatment, remember this!

Today, we looked at recommended skin treatments for sensitive skin. One thing to note here is that sensitive skin is not merely a state of sensitivity, but can also be due to dermatitis or other skin conditions. Therefore, it is very important to get an accurate diagnosis before treatment. Especially if you feel that your skin has suddenly become sensitive when it wasn't before, it is wise to thoroughly consult with a dermatologist before treatment to accurately assess your current skin condition and establish an appropriate treatment plan.
