Today, I will explain in detail how I actually utilize Juvelook for scar treatment and why it is effective for scar improvement.
Is Juvelook a skin booster or a collagen booster?
Many people know Juvelook as a 'skin booster,' but it is more accurate to call it a 'collagen booster.' This is because while typical skin boosters are based on hyaluronic acid, Juvelook was developed to actively promote collagen regeneration.
Why Juvelook is effective for improving depressed scars
The key to treating depressed scars is to induce powerful skin regeneration to fill in the depressed areas, which means promoting collagen production. Juvelook contains Poly-Lactic Acid (PDLLA), and when injected into the dermal layer of the skin, it stimulates surrounding fibroblasts to promote new collagen production and facilitate skin regeneration. This effectively fills the depressed areas with collagen, leading to positive results in scar improvement.
Juvelook, from development to use in scar treatment
In the past, a study by an American doctor showed good results when a collagen booster similar to Juvelook, Sculptra, was used after CO2 laser treatment for scars. At the time, that collagen booster was expensive and had large particle sizes, making it difficult for the skin to absorb well or posing a risk of nodules, so it was challenging to actively use it for actual scar treatment. Then, in 2019, a new collagen booster, Juvelook, was developed in Korea, and I have been actively using it for scar treatment since its early development.
Which scars are effective for Juvelook?
Juvelook is not effective for all types of scars. It shows good results particularly in the improvement of depressed scars. Among acne scars, it is especially effective for wide and uneven rolling scars, which is why I primarily use it for them.
Acne scars can be broadly categorized into the following types:
- Rounded rolling scars: These are wide and uneven, making Juvelook effective for filling them with collagen.
- Narrow and deep icepick scars: These are small in size, making it difficult to fill only the affected area.
- Box-shaped boxcar scars: Similar to icepick scars, Juvelook alone is difficult to use.
Juvelook can yield good results, especially in cases like rolling scars, where the area is wide and it is advantageous to fill it through collagen regeneration.
Why combination treatment is recommended over Juvelook monotherapy
While Juvelook can be used alone to treat scars, combining it with laser treatment is much more effective. I personally recommend combination treatment with laser and Juvelook for depressed scars.
Typically, for depressed scars, 3 to 5 sessions of Juvelook treatment are recommended along with CO2 laser treatment.
Hyaluronic acid products, commonly used as scar fillers, are highly effective at filling space upon injection, but they break down and disappear over time. In contrast, while Juvelook's initial filling effect may not be as fast as hyaluronic acid, it continuously stimulates fibroblasts internally to create new collagen, and its effects last longer. Therefore, from a long-term perspective, it can be said to be a more effective treatment.
