Facial Redness, Red Scars: Which Laser is Effective? A Dermatologist Explains.

V-beam Perfecta introduced the latest Vbeam Prima in 2022, with significantly upgraded performance. Currently, most hospitals in Korea are likely using the previous version, V-beam Perfecta. The introduction of Vbeam Prima in Korea has been delayed due to irregular local production in the US, and it can only be found in some dermatology clinics that adopted it early in its release.

The number of Vbeam Prima laser treatments varies individually depending on the degree of redness and skin condition, but generally, effects can be seen after about 3 to 5 sessions. Vbeam Prima is known as a laser that can be received with little pain or discomfort. Therefore, anesthesia is often not required before the procedure, and during the procedure, a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping may be felt. A benefit is the ability to quickly return to daily life after the procedure. A semi-permanent effect can be expected depending on the skin condition after laser treatment, but if it recurs, it is advisable to receive treatment again early.

V-beam Perfecta is highly regarded as the best among vascular lasers in terms of safety and effectiveness, but its only drawback is the cost of the procedure. The equipment itself is very expensive, and maintaining it incurs significant annual costs, so the procedure cost is relatively higher compared to other lasers.

Synergy laser, often mentioned after V-beam Perfecta, has both 585nm and 1064nm wavelengths. While it shows some improvement, the 585nm wavelength is shorter than the 595nm wavelength, making it difficult to penetrate deep into the skin, which may limit its effectiveness for treating deep blood vessels.

Hospitals with relatively lower costs for redness treatment often use Excel V laser. Excel V laser uses a 532nm wavelength, which is very short and only reaches the superficial layers of the skin. Therefore, Excel V laser is primarily used for hair removal or pigment treatment rather than being specialized for redness like V-beam Perfecta or Synergy laser. In my experience, its effectiveness for vascular treatments such as redness or red scars may be relatively lower among the three devices. Additionally, the 1064nm wavelength of Excel V laser is known to be effective for thick, deep blue blood vessels like varicose veins in the calves, rather than red blood vessels.
