Treatment of Hypertrophic Burn Scars by Combination Laser-Cision and Pinhole Method Using a CO2 Laser

This is a retrospective study evaluating the efficacy and safety of combined laser-cision using a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser and Pinhole for Burn & Surgical Scar for the treatment of hypertrophic burn scars. Nine patients (average age 31.2 years) who received treatment for hypertrophic burn scars from January 2007 to December 2012 were included. Over approximately six years, laser-cision was performed 1-3 times at one-year intervals, and Pinhole for Burn & Surgical Scar was performed 5-8 times at 2-3 month intervals. Two blinded evaluators compared photographs taken before treatment and 6 months after the final treatment, showing mild to moderate improvement in all patients (average 2.89 points). Patient satisfaction surveys showed an average improvement score of 3.11 points. The researchers concluded that combined laser-cision using a CO2 laser and Pinhole for Burn & Surgical Scar could be an effective treatment option for patients with hypertrophic burn scars.
