This study, noting the limitation that non-ablative 1,550-nm Erbium Fractional Laser treatment for Scars requires multiple sessions for satisfactory improvement, evaluated the efficacy and safety of a single session combining two modes of an ablative 10,600-nm Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Fractional Laser system. Twenty Korean patients with atrophic Acne Scars received a single treatment, applying Deep FX mode to the Scar areas and Active FX mode to the entire face. Follow-up results showed 1 patient with 76-100% clinical improvement, 9 patients with 51-75%, 7 patients with 26-50%, and 3 patients with minor or no improvement; post-treatment crusting or scaling lasted an average of 6.3±3.0 days, and erythema an average of 2.8±4.6 days. The authors concluded that CO2 Fractional Laser combining two modes could be a new algorithm for treating Acne Scars in Asians.
