Why Does Redness Occur, and Why Vascular Lasers?
The commonality among facial redness, red acne marks, and red scars is that blood vessels in the skin are abnormally dilated, causing a reddish appearance. Therefore, addressing only surface pigment has limitations, and an approach targeting the dilated blood vessels themselves is necessary.
Vascular lasers are designed so that specific wavelengths of light are selectively absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood vessels, operating on the principle of selectively treating only the enlarged blood vessels while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
Facial redness and red scars are not problems of surface pigment but of dilated blood vessels, and vascular lasers targeting these are central to treatment.
Vbeam Laser: What Makes It Different?
If asked to name an effective and safe facial redness laser for Koreans, many doctors would think of the Vbeam laser.
The Vbeam laser uses a 595nm wavelength, which penetrates deeper into the skin than other lasers, and is designed with increased output and longer pulse duration. Good responses are reported even in facial redness and vascular malformations, which are known to be difficult to treat.
Serious side effects are rare, apart from temporary redness that appears for about 10 minutes after the procedure. During laser irradiation, a powerful coolant is simultaneously sprayed onto the skin surface to protect the skin and reduce pain. This can be seen as a design that considers both efficacy and safety.

Vbeam Prima: What's Upgraded?
In 2022, the Vbeam laser introduced the latest model, Vbeam Prima, with significantly enhanced performance.
Currently, a considerable number of clinics in Korea use V-Beam Perfecta, the previous version of Vbeam Prima.
It is known that the latest Vbeam Prima is not readily produced in the United States, so clinics wishing to introduce it in Korea will have to wait about two more years.
The Vbeam Prima at our clinic is a model equipped with both 595nm and 1064nm wavelengths. Therefore, it is known that not many clinics, including Yonsei Star Dermatology Sinchon, which introduced this specification early in its release in Korea, possess it.
If there's one drawback to the Vbeam laser, it's the cost burden.
While it is considered one of the best vascular lasers in terms of safety and efficacy, the equipment itself is expensive, and annual maintenance costs are incurred, so it is more accurate to receive specific procedure costs after consultation.
What Dual Wavelengths Mean
Unlike V-Beam Perfecta, Vbeam Prima is equipped with both 595nm and 1064nm wavelengths. Being a dual wavelength, it can treat not only red blood vessels but also deep and blue blood vessels, and the increased energy per spot size is advantageous for treating large areas.

How Many Sessions Are Needed, and What About Pain?
The number of Vbeam Prima sessions varies depending on the degree of redness and skin condition, but generally, changes can be observed after about 3-5 sessions.
However, since redness is closer to a chronic condition than a temporary one, continued maintenance treatment afterwards can help prevent redness or rosacea.
Pain is reported to be at a level that can be tolerated without significant discomfort. Anesthesia is not required before the procedure, and during the procedure, the sensation is like a light flick of a rubber band, so even young students can receive it, and daily life can be resumed quickly after the procedure.
The effectiveness of laser treatment varies depending on skin condition and physical response, and semi-permanent results can be expected. However, individual differences may occur.
Since these conditions are often chronic and prone to recurrence, it is recommended to seek early treatment if signs of recurrence appear.

What About Cynergy Laser?
Among vascular lasers, the Cynergy (Syneron) laser is frequently mentioned after Vbeam.
The Cynergy laser is equipped with both 585nm and 1064nm wavelengths, and some improvement is reported for mild red acne marks or red acne scars.
However, the 585nm wavelength is shorter than 595nm, and shorter wavelengths make it difficult to penetrate deep into the skin.
Is Excel V a Dedicated Device for Redness?
If the cost of redness treatment is particularly low, it is highly likely that the Excel V laser is being used. Excel V uses a 532nm wavelength, and as explained earlier, shorter wavelengths are difficult to penetrate deeply.
Therefore, Excel V is not a device specialized for redness like Vbeam or Cynergy, but rather a device commonly used for hair removal or pigment treatment.
In our clinic's experience, among the three devices, Excel V shows relatively lower response in vascular treatments such as facial redness or red scars, and the Vbeam laser shows the best response in the area of facial redness.
